Sailing regattas
The Orion is a sturdy sea-tjalk built in 1892, and she lends herself perfectly for traditional ships regattas. She is really fast and manoeuvres well in stronger winds.
Sailing the IJsselmeer

Regattas
These are the traditional regattas that Orion can compete in:
Pieper race in Volendam: 7-8 april 2018. We embark on Friday night; the race is held on Saturday and Sunday. The ships are fresh from their winter berths, and sail across the still very cold waters. This is a regatta for die-hards, so don’t forget to pack warm clothes! On Saturday night we visit the hustle and bustle on the Volendam Dijk boulevard to bask in the afterglow of an exciting day.
Jan Haring race in Monnickendam: 6-8 july 2018. Monnickendam is Orion’s home port, and this is bound to work in her favour. Within view of the Marken lighthouse, no less than 80 klippers, tjalks and botters, both pleasure craft and charter ships, will compete in this Markermeer regatta. The race is on Saturday and Sunday; we embark on Friday and have a celebration in Monnickendam on Saturday night!
Bontekoe race in Hoorn: 27-28 October 2018 is going to see the 24th Bontekoe race in the Hoornse Hop bay. Tjalken, botters and klippers compete here. We embark on Friday and race on Saturday and Sunday. After partying on Saturday, daylight saving time will grant us an extra hour of sleep on Sunday the 30th!
