Sailing Pampus

The artificial fortress island Pampus lies north of the town of Muiden and east of Amsterdam. It is a part of the Stelling van Amsterdam (Amsterdam defence line). Construction of the fortress started in 1887 to protect Amsterdam from possible invaders, but it has never been in use during a conflict, except as target practice.

Sailing Pampus is an interesting trip! On the island you can opt for a guided tour with a guide who can tell you everything there is to know about the history and the significance of Pampus. You can also explore the place with a map or visit the Pampus Experience: an interactive exhibition about 400 years of history surrounding the island.

Sailing to Pampus

Pampus fortress island is one of Egasail’s favourite destinations. The sailing charter Orion was built in 1882 and has kept many of its original features, but of course she is also equipped with all modern comforts. From our home port in Amsterdam or Monnickendam we sail across the Markermeer to moor at the Pampus jetty.
