Sailing Monnickendam
Monnickendam is a beautiful sailing destination, which is why Egasail chose to make her its home port. De harbour used to lie on the Zuyderzee; nowadays it look out across the Gouwzee. Monnickendam came to prosperity during the Dutch Golden Age and has had city rights since 1335.
When sailing Monnickendam, visiting the city is an absolute must! There are many historical attractions, such as the Grote Kerk (big church), the Speeltoren clock tower and museum with the world’s oldest functioning carillon, and the beautiful city walls, dikes and locks. The centre is full of historical gable houses and you can get freshly smoked fish in Monnickendam’s own smokehouse.
Our home port in Monnickendam
From Egasail’s home port we make beautiful sailing trips across The Gouwzee, the Markermeer and the IJsselmeer. The local marinas can house no less than 3500 vessels, and twenty sailing charters cast off from here. On a multi-day trip we can sail as far as the Wadden Sea and the Friesian lakes.
