Saling Makkum

The Friesian harbour town of Makkum grew to great prosperity during the Dutch Golden Age. This northernmost Ijsselmeer harbour is nowadays known mostly for its hand-painted earthenware. The beautifully maintained historical shipyards and urban layout are still much the same as in the 17th century.

Sailing Makkum is a nice relaxing getaway! Walk along the monumental merchants’ houses for a lasting impression of the glory days. Some historical buildings have cosy cafes with outdoor terraces: perfect for grabbing a pint! There are more than 50 listed buildings in the centre, a number of which are open to visitors.

Sailing to Makkum

Egasail organises several different kinds of sailing trips to Makkum. You can book us for a day, a weekend or even a whole week. There are plenty of opportunities to actively participate in the sailing, or to learn “the ropes”under expert guidance. Less actively inclined sailors can relax on deck and enjoy the restful views across the waves. Of course, there will also be plenty of time to explore the town. If you choose a multi-day trip you can spend the night on board the Orion in the historical Makkum town centre. For more information regarding prices, availability etc., send an email to Wouter Egas the skipper at info@egasail.nl.
