Sailing with the Orion

Experience the joy of sailing and wind, water, air and peace. Aboard the sturdy sea-tjalk Orion, built in 1892, you can enjoy traditional sailing combined with modern comfort. Our home port is the old inner harbour of Monnickendam. Monnickendam is situated only ten miles to the north of Amsterdam; from here we sail across the IJsselmeer.

The Orion

The Orion was built in 1892 at the Jan Mol shipyard on the Moerheimstraat in Dedemsvaart. There had been a shipyard in that location since 1870, and as early as 1830 Andries Mol, Jan Mol’s grandfather, had had a shipyard in Dedemsvaart.
