History sailboat Orion
The ship has been built in Dedemsvaart at 1892.
A lot of cargo has been sailed with this ‘seatjalk’.
A diesel engine has been installed at 1953, to allow a faster sailing time to the designation. The family Kelder was owner of this ship and completed the motor sailing in 1972.
Mr Idsinga bought the ship from ship merchant Koehoorn. The family Idsinga lived on board in the deckhouse. Maintenance was done at Draaisma in Franeker.
In 1981, Frans and Frouke Frouke Fischer bought Orion from the family Idsinga. Orion was transferred into a sailing charter ship and was one of the first sailing ships in Harlingen. Hans Rechter and Ed Slot from Monnickendam did do the steel construction work that time.
Frans and Frouke Fischer commenced, as one of the first pioneers, the sailing of passengers from Harlingen. The journeys of these pioneers went even to the east sea.
Rob Fischer commenced as skipper on the Orion in 1993 to Orion and took over the Orion from his brother in 1997.
In 2001, Orion switched from owner to Jeroen Boekema.
Jeroen sailed with great enthusiasm many passengers on the Wadden Sea, Ijsselmeer and many other waters.
At the end of 2006, the current owner Wouter Egas purchased the ship, in order to share his fun and enthusiasm for the wind, water and waves with the passengers.
